The art history of the 'west', of Europe and North America, is too often regarded as independent from the rest of the world. An exhibition coming to the British Museum this autumn hopes to change that. Compiled in collaboration with the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia, Inspired by the East will examine how western art, particularly in the 19th and 20th century was influenced by the Islamic world.
